Far behind the famous Qutub Minar in the southern outskirts of Delhi near the Mandi Road lies the Bapu Colony. An authorized slum with allmost 40.000 residents. This area is also mostly occupied by migrant from different poor states like Bihar, Jharkhand or Madhya Pradesh who work as daily workers.

THE LEARNING CENTER.

The learning center is run by a mother and her daughter who teach about 40 children in a small center with two room and a little closed area in front of the room. Both rooms have no window and just a single source light. The room are much to small for chairs, tables or any large equipement.
Both teachers work a long time for us and do a great job as we can see both in the reports and also in the eyes of the children.
The problem with this learning center is the longterm planning for our facility. The Center runs with a rented facility wich leads to arious problems. The biggest problem is the changes we do by f.e. renovating the rooms or fixing the roof would automatically expand the rental costs. Such changes would raise the value of the facility and it is just a matter of pure economics when the landlord raises the rent.

THE FACILITY.

In the recent facility we are very limited in space for the children and the teachers.
But even under these harsh conditions we provide light and fan, mats for the children to sit, a book rack.
A box for storing nutritious snacks for the children, a table and a chair for the teacher, blackboard and a pin up board plus a wall of story books.
This is why we are very limited in developing the center. That´s why our goal for the upcoming years is to buy a small peace of land land and to create our own learning center inside the area of Bapu Colony.
